Debbie, one of our wonderful group members decided to share her take on this zesty treat! You can see Debbie's posts and progress in our private Facebook group, Making Vanilla Extract by VanillaPura

In Debbie's pictures and in her own words, here is how she makes her own, homemade orange extract:

Ingredients:

  • 4oz of Everclear- 190
  • 4 oz of distilled water
  • Zest of 3 Oranges

Instructions:

1. I clean my oranges with vinegar and water along with my Norwex fruit veggie cloth.

2. Strain the extract coffee filter when the orange zest starts to lose its color. Replace zest and repeat process 3 times over a 3-4 month period.

Enjoy!

So is 8 oz everclear diluted actually 4oz EC / 4 oz distilled water? Please clarify your ingredients/ instructions. And please advise that after mixing the EC and DW, you need to wait about 30 minutes to let the mixture combine. It’s a chemical reaction.

When using Everclear, dilute 1:1 with water. You want a finished solvent of around 80-100 proof. Everclear is 190 proof out of the bottle.

It says diluted but does not say how much to dilute. Kind of a key piece of info…

How and where and for how long can you store this?
