Instructions
Simple to make: Just add all of the contents of the pouch (including the separately packaged vanilla beans) to an extract jar of your choice, and add your spirit. Follow these simple instructions:
- 2oz Pouch comes with 1oz vanilla beans: Add to 10oz of Spirits
- 4oz Pouch comes with 2oz vanilla beans: Add to 20oz of Spirits
- 8oz Pouch comes with 4oz vanilla beans: Add to 40 oz of Spirits
- 1lb Pouch comes with 8oz vanilla beans: Add to 80 oz of Spirits
Important Tip: Freeze-dried fruit and other dried ingredients are thirsty and will absorb some of the alcohol. Top off spirits if alcohol drops below the ingredients to ensure ingredients are fully submerged during extraction for maximum results. Some ingredients will float at first. Fermentation weights in mason jars are recommended for making Artisan extract blends. If you don't have mason weights, manually press the ingredients down during the first week of extraction until they absorb the liquid and sink on their own.
After 2 Months:
- Taste test the extract by putting 2 drops into a tablespoon of milk or whipped cream, stir and taste.
- Remove all of the ingredients by pouring the extract through a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter.
- Return the vanilla beans and the extract to the jar to rest for 10 more months.
- If you love how the extract tastes — fruit and tropical forward — you can begin using it immediately. Continue to let the vanilla beans extract for 10 more months if you wish it to be more vanilla forward. It's 100% up to you.
After 12 Months (up to 18 months for dark spirits):
- Taste test your extract to ensure it meets your desired flavor profile. If you would like more pronounced vanilla flavor, let it extract for another month or longer, taste testing monthly.
- If you love the taste, remove the vanilla beans and use them for vanilla powder, sugar or paste, or add them to your mother jar. Or, leave the vanilla beans in your Island Orchard extract for more pronounced vanilla flavor over time.
