En l'honneur de sa vie et de sa simplicité, je propose un standard...

Sa façon de vivre n'était pas compliquée. C'était une cuisinière incroyable, mais c'était une bonne cuisine de ferme solide.

J'aurais aimé commencer à faire de la vanille avant son décès. Je lui aurais offert une somme énorme. Cela aurait été de l'or pour elle. Elle a utilisé une quantité incroyable de vanille.

L’une des choses qui me vient sans cesse à l’esprit est sa recette de fudge. Du fudge à l'ancienne. Sucre pur, beurre, vanille, sel, lait concentré. Cette femme n’a jamais non plus possédé de thermomètre à bonbons. Elle a offert sa recette et la poêle en fonte dans laquelle elle l'a préparée à mon deuxième fils pour perpétuer la tradition. Il m’a promis que lorsque j’aurais retrouvé le goût [après avoir eu le COVID], il m’en préparerait. Normalement, c'est une chose réservée à Noël.

Ainsi, la « recette » que je propose est simplement 4 oz de haricots de Madagascar combinés avec 750 ml. de vodka Ketel 1.

La simplicité de cela est parfaite pour elle. Maman ne voudrait pas de fantaisie. Cela n'a jamais été elle. Elle voudrait de bonnes bases solides qui lui serviraient dans n'importe quel plat qu'elle pourrait éventuellement préparer.

Et c'est pourquoi Willa's Fortune semble convenir. Elle aurait soutenu que je n'aurais pas dû dépenser autant, et je lui aurais répondu qu'elle valait chaque centime et même plus.

Your precious tribute to your mother brought me to tears. She reminded me of my mother. My mother didn’t try the fancy dishes but what she did cook or bake was absolutely the best. I think we scored having these wonderful women for our mothers. Here’s to the ladies who made us who we are today!

Mom would have turned 100 yesterday, Oct 12, 2022. I continue making various types of vanilla and share with my family. She would have been thrilled to have gotten some! She was the most remarkable woman I have ever known. This is for you, Momma!

What a beautiful tribute to your mother. My Mamma Miley was the schoolhouse cook, then became a baker when the school shut down in the late ’50s. I remember her using imitation vanilla but her cakes were always delicious. This will make great gift: a homemade vanilla extract made in her memory by her granddaughter! Thank you for the inspiration.
