An extremely rare vanilla bean with a unique aroma, taste and size. The Oave Marquesas vanilla bean (pronounced Oh-Ah-Vey)  is an experience all to itself. Like other small-island vanilla beans, it's an extremely difficult vanilla bean to obtain. It is cultivated and harvested in small quantity given the small geographic regions where they are grown.

This is a very large v.Tahitensis vanilla bean. Sometimes just 3 beans to an ounce, similar to the huge Pompona vanilla beans from Peru that we also offer when in season. They 2-3 times as plump as other beans which typically means more rich, wonderful oils and a lot of lovely caviar, making this bean a VanillaPura favorite.

These large vanilla beans are a prized export from this amazing country. Growers and the country at large take incredible pride in producing such a sweet vanilla bean that is an entirely novel experience from any other vanilla bean in the world. And at VanillaPura, we take great pride in supporting farmers that put as much emphasis on quality as these farmers do.

Marquesas Islands on Map

We named this vanilla bean The Oave after the tallest peak in the Marquesas Islands. All of the islands in this small chain are of volcanic origin, and their tall, sharp peaks define the paradise where these vanilla beans are grown, almost as much as the sweetness of the vanilla beans themselves.

Tropics of Marquesas

(The tropic cliffs of volcanic origin in Marquesas)

When you first open a pouch of The Oave vanilla beans, your nose will be met with an aroma that is sweet and floral with strong notes of tropical fruit and a sweet woody scent with vanilla overtones. When you remove the first bean from the pouch and bring it to your nose, the distinct vanilla base will present itself as it captures your senses and takes you to a tropical garden in the pacific where these amazing vanilla beans are grown.  Finally, The Oave Tahitian vanilla bean extract will have a predominantly sweet vanilla taste and a subtile vanilla spice that is softened by hints of tropical fruits like guava and mango softened by a sweet woody blend of flavors that binds the distinct flavors together.  It's a perfect vanilla bean for creams, liquors, homemade ice cream, and exceptional for fruit extracts when you add a single vanilla bean to blend the fruit taste with the alcohol used for extraction.

VanillaPura vanilla beans are all shipped vacuum sealed for freshness and should be stored unrefrigerated in a cool, dry and dark place.

On average, there are 3-6 beans/oz depending on the moisture content of the specific batch of vanilla beans. There can be as few as 2-3 beans or as many as 7-10 beans depending on each harvest, which is why we sell by weight and not by bean count. Pricing reflects current market conditions and will be updated as market prices change.

Heavenly taste

My first batch is still extracting but the oil soaked sugar is long gone. I’m absolutely in love with this bean. The fragrance alone was incredible. I saved the oil infused sugar for the longest time just so I could take a sniff . Because of its price I’ve been holding off purchasing but I’m going for it today. This is going to be the only bean I ever buy from now own!!
