We are excited to introduce our first-ever vanilla bean from the islands of Vanuatu, located just West of Fiji and Tonga in the tropics of the Western Pacific Ocean. We named this rich, oily and fragrant bean after one of the 83 individual islands that make up Vanuatu: Mavea. In 2015, the small island of Mavea was home to just 232 people and 47 households. 30 people on the island still speak the endangered language of Mavea.

Now, let's talk about the amazing vanilla from Vanuatu.

This is a very difficult bean to find and is available in a very limited quantity. It's very seasonal so it will stock out due to its low supply and high demand, and may not be available again for some time. It's a vanilla bean with a taste like no other. In fact, the aroma and taste of this bean is reminiscent of ginger spice and nutmeg. You will also notice hints of cinnamon and sandalwood. No other vanilla bean has those characteristics.

Like all VanillaPura beans, The Mavea (Vanuatu) vanilla beans are of the highest quality. They are plump, dark, extremely rich in oils. Light spirits like vodka, white rum and tequila are best when using this bean in your DIY extracts. But given the ginger and nutmeg undertones of this amazing bean, it is fantastic with spiced or dark rum as well, and perfect for specialty holiday extracts.

(A small island within Vanuatu)

When you first open a pouch of The Mavea Vanuatu vanilla beans, your nose will be met with a burst of powerful vanilla aroma that is certainly one of the most bold vanilla beans that we have experienced. As the vanilla scent subsides, you will begin to tease out the spicy undertones that make this vanilla bean a favorite among pastry chefs and at-home dessert connoisseurs alike. Cinnamon, sandalwood, mango and floral, spicy sweetness will all present themselves to you.

(The location of Vanuatu provides the climate and unique soil to make this vanilla bean an entirely new experience.)

After months (or even years) of extraction, your finished Mavea Vanuatu vanilla extract will demonstrate a sweet, spicy extract with notes of mango, cinnamon, sandalwood and subtle notes of nutmeg.

These vanilla beans are very oily and rich with vanillin. They are usually between 6" and 8" inches long and have a dark brown color. Like all vanilla beans from VanillaPura, they are backed by our 100%, no questions asked satisfaction guarantee.

VanillaPura vanilla beans are all shipped vacuum sealed for freshness and should be stored unrefrigerated in a cool, dry and dark place.

This is a co-op product page for vanilla bean co-op members. Co-op orders are combined with other customer orders and may have a lead time of 4-8 weeks. The result is the lowest priced, gourmet vanilla beans anywhere. "Wait a little, and save a lot!" Since this is a NEW PRODUCT, it may not ship for up to 6 weeks.

On average, there are 6-10 beans/oz depending on the moisture content of the specific batch of vanilla beans. There can be as few as 5 beans or as many as 20 beans. Pricing reflects current market conditions and will be updated as market prices change.

Beautiful, oily beans; have been decanting for nearly a year and my extract looks very dark and rich. Hasn’t reached full profile for baking, yet… but soon!
